A Quick Hit: Great British Bake Off
Season 16 wrapped up with a different champion.
very year, I look forward to the new season of The Great British Baking show; it’s like my World Series. The show starts doing teasers on Instagram by publishing little bios about the new contestants, and posting some other skits and intros with the hosts and judges to get the viewers excited. It’s all I need to get psyched!
Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith returned for judging. I thought that Prue wasn’t going to be returning this season, so it was nice to see that she was back in the judges seat. Noel Fielding came back for his 8th season, and was rejoined by Alison Hammond as the dynamic, bantering duo that interacts with the bakers.
It’s usually easy to tell which baker is going to be eliminated first because they spend extra time going into their backstory of how they got to the infamous white tent. Hassan was the first one to be axed, mainly because his Swiss roll was a melting glob of underbaked goo. It’s always awkward for that person to be eliminated, but someone’s gotta go first.
As the weeks went on, it was super clear that Jasmine was the front runner from the very beginning. She earned 5 Star Bakers, the most from any season, and almost all of her Signature Bakes and Showstoppers were perfection. Hollywood said she’s the best they’ve seen in the tent! Obviously she won the grand finale and it was much deserved.
As usual, I’m looking forward to next fall when the new season begins, but for now, I’ll just have to try and hone my own baking skills.
