The Cost of Winning

AGS Fantasy Football 2023 Week 5.

By Nick M.W.

Sometimes, you lose when you win and win when you lose.

On one hand, I got my skinny ass kicked up and down the fantasy football field last week by West Koast Voodoo, but there was a little bit of silver lining in that brutal loss. Cooper Kupp returned to playing football for the L.A. Rams and Rebel Scum, and Austin Ekeler should return to action for the Scum this week as well, so there’s a bit of promise going into my Week 6 matchup with Rudy. I get my big guns back! For now, things are trending up for me after four weeks of being pinned to the bottom of the league.

On the other hand, The Sugandese held off Oops Babies to bounce back from his first loss, post another win, and roll into the thick of the bye weeks with a 4 – 1 record. He didn’t waste a 50 burger by DJ Moore, but that win cost him Justin Jefferson for at least four weeks. Any roster without Justin Jefferson is far less intimidating than it is with the best receiver in the NFL, but The Sugandese are going to have to get creative (and a bit lucky) to survive at least four weeks going .500. Fortunately, he has some breathing room because he’s at the top of his division. It’s also nice that his next opponent is another bottom feeder, like yours truly, but (despite his sorry ass record) Who’s Coming in 2nd won’t be a pushover.

He wasn’t the only owner in our league to feel the pain of losing a key player in a winning effort, and I know there are more of you out there who went through the same thing. Thoughts and prayers.

If you are sub .500 at this point in the season, the odds of making the playoffs are stacking against you. Perhaps the fantasy gods will reward your resilience with a few wins since you’ve already paid such a heavy cost. Perhaps, the fantasy gods could care less about your plight. What you can’t control doesn’t matter much, and you folks out there in the fantasy football world already know that anything can happen week-to-week, on any given Sunday.
