The Injured Dead

AGS Fantasy Football 2023 Week 6.

By Emmitt Smith

Playoff survival is tightening up.

Doesn’t it seem like you’ve been watching your favorite zombie show, and for the last six weeks, each character gets picked off, one-by-one, until it’s mid-season, and there’s nobody left. In this case, your star running back, quarter back, wide receiver, or whatever, gets knocked out of the game headed to the locker room, never to return. Next thing you know, your score is sitting there in limbo. It ain’t going up, and depending on your defense—if they’re giving up points—you’re just going to bleed out that whole Sunday and possibly Monday, depending on your matchups.

Christian McCaffrey, Justin Fields, and David Montgomery are the latest victims added to the macabre, crippling lineups across AGS. Kyren Williams, Deebo Samuel, Ryan Tannehill—all bitten by the injured dead. Playoff survival out here is tightening up.

But for me, Rudy’s Replacements, this week was against your one and only Rebel Scum, a healthy Rebel Scum at that. With Austin Eckler and Cooper Kupp back in the lineup for the first time this season for him—yeah it had me a little bit worried, but I had Adam Thielen, and Thielen ain’t let me down all season. He matched Kupp’s production, with 25.5 points. And then, to top it off, gas lighting quarterback, Justin Herbert, finished him off in classic Monday Night Football fashion.

Big win. Big win.

Now, Week 7 is here. “Waiver Wire Wednesday” has passed, and managers have a whole new week of preparing, panicking, and surviving. If I have to walk around with chakra stones, saying an affirmation prayer for each one of my players to keep them from injuries, that’s what I’m going to have to do.

This episode, AGS brings back manager Rebel Scum, former AGS champions West Koast Voodoo and New Jax City, and Commissioner Cebert Frogs, and the current champion of our league, Ambassadors of Quan, for a breakdown of their matchups, trade deadline talk, slurp guidelines, and the dread of coming in last place.

This is the Any Given Sunday podcast.
